Barcroft Families for Playground Awesomeness
Lake Barcroft’s initiative for a new, natural playground
LBA BOARD APPROVED THE PLAYGROUND!!!!!!
On 10/14/2018, the LBA President announced,
"At Wednesday (10/10/2018) night's Board meeting, the Board unanimously approved action to replace the existing playground equipment at Beach 3 with new equipment that would occupy approximately the same footprint as the existing equipment. The project will have to meet all ARC, RPA, County and other requirements including a plan for managing erosion, long-term maintenance, insurance costs and other issues identified by the community during the outreach process. The Board also expressed that the equipment should not negatively impact the existing canopy trees at Beach 3. The budget for the project will be capped at the funds raised by the community for the project plus a $5,000 contribution from LBA.
This action allows the adhoc subcommittee to proceed with its review of the bids that have arrived in response to an RFP issued by the Association; those bids will help refine and design the equipment and determine the cost components of the project. The subcommittee will recommend a final selection to the Board, which will have ultimate approval authority for the project. This action came on the heels of the community meeting (Oct 1) on the playground, where the community demonstrated overwhelming support for the project . That support was also confirmed by the nearly 300 written, e-mailed, and posted comments submitted to the Board by community residents. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or one of your board members. I would like to thank Janet Kerley and Kevin Kampshroer who have worked tirelessly on this project for many months, managing the outreach efforts to ensure all voices were heard and issues logged and investigated. There are still a number of processes to complete, including ARC and RPA review, and this decision allows us to make some of the necessary decisions required to complete those reviews and enter the home stretch of this project."
